The Dallas-Fort Worth cases I see most
Construction workers. The Metroplex has been under constant construction for years. Framers, concrete crews, electricians' helpers, and equipment operators are routinely paid day rates or piece rates, or handed a 1099, and never paid overtime on 50 and 60-hour weeks. A day rate covers straight time only. Hours over 40 are still owed time and a half.
Warehouse, logistics, and distribution. DFW is one of the largest logistics hubs in the country. Fulfillment centers, freight terminals, and last-mile operations run long shifts, and the violations follow: off-the-clock time before and after the shift, automatic lunch deductions for breaks that get worked through, and misclassification of drivers and dock workers as contractors.
Healthcare workers. The hospital systems and home health agencies across Dallas, Fort Worth, and the suburbs use the same practices I litigate everywhere: lunch docked while nurses and aides work through it, charting after the shift, and unpaid travel time for home health visits.
Misclassified managers. Retail, restaurant, and service employers hand workers a manager title and a salary, then have them do the same hourly work as everyone else. The title does not make you exempt. What you actually do decides it. See Misclassified Managers.
Truck drivers and 1099 contractors. DFW sits at the crossing of major freight corridors. Drivers paid by the load or the day, and workers of every kind handed a 1099, are often employees owed overtime under federal law.
